ABOUT THE AMERICAN BALLET RUSSE
Skip Navigation Links. The American Ballet Russe (a not for profit organization registered in the state of New York) is a Long Island based classical ballet company which was founded in1991. It is composed of outstanding dancers from the world’s best ballet companies. It is dedicated to educating the public to appreciate the traditional aesthetic value of ballet. Our mission is to keep classical ballet alive on Long Island where it is threatened by the popularity of women’s sports. The American Ballet Russe performs the greatest ballets of one of the most important ballet companies in history, Serge Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. That company was known for its legendary dancing, lavish sets and costumes, all in a glamorous atmosphere. The American Ballet Russe’s jewel box productions combine exoticism and theatricality with vibrant dancing.

Upcoming Productions

We are pleased to announce our full length presentation of the ballet Alladin to be performed at The Landmark Theater in Port Washington on Feb. 11 and 12, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. We will use the Alladin tale from the original 1001 Arabian Nights and create a Pan Asian ballet intended for a family audience with Russian Orientalist music and choreography by our own Osamu Uehara. We chose Alladin because Disney has made it a popular story, a perfect vehicle for a ballet adaption.

We will be holding a raffle throughout the month of December to raise money for our Alladin show. We will also appear at the Port Washington Library on Sat. January 14 to promote the show by dancing an excerpt. Tell your friends to come and witness a free sample of Alladin. Stay tuned to see a list of our wonderful raffle prizes which will be posted soon. The raffle drawing will be held at the end of our second show. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase all through the month of December and January and will be available at the shows.

Our June production will take place on Sunday June 10th, 2012 at Great Neck South High School at 3 p.m. We will perform the ballet “Le Corsair”, a comedy ballet about pirates and slave girl princesses. This ballet will be performed this year at the Metropolitan Opera in June by American Ballet Theater. Stay tuned for much more info about our June show.
